Karate Syllabus.

Our base training in karate employs the Shotokan system developed by Anko Itosu and Gichin Funakoshi.

We teach a different syllabus for children and adults and adults are not permitted to train with the children. Although this makes it less popular for family karate, it allows us to teach adults  a true karate system based on the old uchinadi and Shuri-te systems (basis of Shotokan) as they develop through the syllabus. Our focus on adult training is 'self defence' whereas the children's system is 'sport'.

Children may be offered the opportunity of training in the adult system from the age of 16. They may move across to the adult system and are reassessed through the grades. This is done in class for all kyu grades as the student already knows the basic techniques and the sports version of the kata.

The children's classes welcome students from the age of 5.
