5 Year Award.

This award was created in order to recognise those students who have taken their karate seriously enough to continue studies for at least 5 years in our club. As the clubs were only founded in 2002, 2007 was the first  qualifying year, so we (Steve) designed a small badge to celebrate the achievement and we started issuing them in 2008.

Sensei Stephen Bates (Nidan) was a founder member of our clubs in November 2002.

Rikesh Parmar joined our clubs on 24th February 2004 after training in Goju Ryu at a local club that closed down.

James Weber (Shodan) has been a member of the clubs since 25th May 2004, starting as  a junior and having now attained adult Yudansha grade.

Andrew Hallam joined the club on 14th October 2004 after studying Wado Ryu for several years. He has had some time out to attend university and is now back full swing into his karate study.

Jordan Halls joined our club on 22nd December 2004 after training at another club for a while. He attained Cadet Shodan grade in 2009 and has now joined the adult class and is being reassessed through the adult syllabus.

Luke Cox joined the club in August 2004 and trained regularly at the Leybourne club. Shortly after moving to the West Malling club he took a break from karate for the year and then returned to join the adult class where is is working through his grades at a good rate.

Ruth Smith-Burr joined our club in West Malling as a novice on 5th May 2005. At the time of this award she had attained her 3kyu grade and was under assessment for Sempai qualification.

Anjali Sawhney was awarded her 5 Year badge on 11th June 2010.
Shona Sawhney moved across from the old KSKC club when it closed and qualified for her 5 year award with our club on 10th July 2010.

Tony Baldock joined our club after passing several grades with GKR and qualified for his 5 year award on 30th July 2010.

Fred Vereker-Hales joined our Loose club as a novice and qualified for his 5 year award on 6th August 2010.

David joined our clubs after qualifying for his Shodan in Goju Ryu karate and has since completed our Shodan syllabus.

He was awarded his 5 year badge on 27th September 2010.

Alan Farley was awarded his 5 Year badge on 6th October 2010. Alan joined as a novice and has regularly trained to the level of 2kyu so far.

Paco Cayuela (Sempai, Nidan) qualified for his 5 year award on 14th October. Paco trained with me in a previous club before joining us in his mid kyu grades.

Robert Parkes received his 5 year award on 8th November 2010. He started with us after training at another local Shotokan club, progressed to 1kyu in the children's syllabus and then moved to the adult class at 16. He now holds 5kyu (at time of award) in the adult system and continue sto make great progress.

Fraser Inglis was awarded his 5 year badge at the Grove Green Dojo.

Simon Buck was awarded his 5 year badge to recognise completion of 5 years karate study with us on 1st March 2011.

5 year award for commitment to karate

Jack Smith was awarded his badge at grove green after completing 5 years with our clubs on 22nd March 2011. He is the sole remaining member of our Leybourne club that we eventually closed to to very poor hall management services.

Kira Mason received her 5 year badge in November 2011.
